Lookout Mountain Multi-Use Pathway

The natural and historic resources of Lookout Mountain attract large volumes of vehicular and pedestrian traffic to this small mountaintop community.

The narrow, winding roadways contribute to the picturesque character but do not provide adequate safety for walkers, runners, and bikers who share the road with vehicles. Rock walls and utilities limit the amount of construction that can be done adjacent to the roadway.

Tennessee Riverwalk Arch Suspension Bridge

This dual-purpose steel arch suspension bridge serves as part of the Tennessee Riverwalk system. It also supports a 60-inch ductile iron gravity interceptor across the mouth of Citico Creek at the Tennessee River. It is constructed of tubular weathering steel sections with a 133-foot span and a 10-foot-wide boardwalk. The arch reaches a maximum height of 27 feet over the bridge deck. Extensive coordination with utilities and extreme care were required for the location of abutments in order to avoid existing raw water intake pipes of Tennessee-American Water Company.

Pinkerton Park Pedestrian Bridge

To allow access from historic/commercial areas west of the Harpeth River to walking/biking trails on the east, the City of Franklin needed a pedestrian bridge. The bridge was shipped to Franklin in five sections and was assembled on site. Fabricated from self-weathering steel tubing with a pressure-treated wood deck, the superstructure has minimal maintenance requirements. The three concrete piers and both abutments were constructed using irregular stone-shaped forms, providing visual compatibility with the river banks.

Chattanooga City Landfill Improvements

Like most municipal services, solid waste management has come under increased regulation in recent years in an effort to prevent ground water and surface water contamination. Many of us remember the old city "dump" as a place where garbage was simply pushed into a hollow at the edge of town. Today, landfills are highly engineered systems requiring sophisticated support facilities.
